Illinois Attorney General Sues Seven Illinois Businesses

Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan recently sued five home repair contractors in Cook County court, along with one contractor each in Bureau County and McHenry County courts. . According to an Illinois AG press release, Madigan alleges that these five home improvement contractors conned Illinois residents out of nearly $500,000.

According to court documents, Madigan asserts that these contractors accepted down payment money from consumers, then failed to perform the appropriate work. In some cases, the business lawsuit alleges that these contractors didn’t do any at all of the promised renovations.

Illinois Attorney General Sues Seven Illinois BusinessesMadigan’s lawsuit alleges that the contractors in question violated the Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Business Practices Act and the Home Repair and Remodeling Act. Madigan is asking the Illinois courts to permanently ban the defendants from offering home repair services in Illinois, and also seeks to have the defendants pay restitution to the affected consumers. Should the court require restitution, this would amount to at least $50,000 per defendant, and possibly more, should the court find the defendants guilty of intent to defraud or if the fraudulent activities were performed against a senior citizen.
